A Birthday and Memorial Day Weekend!

One happy Brandy!

What an awesome weekend!!!!! On Saturday I took the whole day off for my b-day...number 25! Some friends and I headed down to Shelf Road to climb all day. It was quite an adventurous day too! As soon as my friend and I got down there I let Brandy out of my car to run free and someone ran up to me yelling to get my dog on a leash because there was a bear over by the campground. So I put Brandy in the car, grabbed my camera, and proceeded towards the black bear to snap some shots. The bear was a cub only weighing probably 120 lbs. so it was scarred of us. It ran away and I was unable to get any good shots. But, it was cool to see a black bear so up close and personal. I got within 15 feet of him, had the perfect picture but my memory card was full...dang it! We also heard that last weekend two adult bears tore off car doors in a nearby campground to get to food left in cars...that is scary!

Climbing was awesome. It was a beautiful day and it was good to be out with my Christian friends. I also managed to get pretty beat up that day but not from climbing. I decided to take a walk down a hill to go pee and well, it was not so pretty. I fell down the hill, scraped up my leg, and managed to fall into a cactus. Oh, and as you can see in the picture above of Brandy, the cacti down in there are brutal. I was in so much pain trying to pull the cacti out of my foot and bum. I came back from going pee bleeding and in pain. It was not pretty! No more going to the bathroom in the woods; it is more dangerous than climbing!

Later that evening a friend took me out to Old C's for my b-day and bought my dinner. I enjoyed a yummy lager with lime and a mini-pizza. We went to the downtown Old C's and sat outside so Brandy could be with us. She was soooooooooo happy on Saturday. She got to swim in the river, run around at shelf, and lay outside while we ate dinner. After Old C's I met some friends at Jack Quinns, but I was way to tired to stay out. I went home and both Brandy and I passed out from exhaustion. Good times!

On Sunday, I went to church...yay for me going to church! Then I parked my car at my friend's house on GOG and I-25. I then road my bike downtown to Mountain Chalet and then to Old Colorado City for Territory Days (the big street fair every Memorial Day weekend). Total ride was about 15 miles by the time I made it back to my car. It was an awesome ride...I love the downtown culture. Everyone is so bike friendly!

So you may ask: what did I get for my b-day? Well I got the Lady Antebellum CD and money from my parents, which allowed me to buy new sunglasses (mine broke:(), lights for my bike so I can ride to work, and new tires for my bike. Yes, I like my bike!

A tragedy...

"You (should) hold on to what you know in the midst of a crisis, because the temptation is to hold on to what you don't know — to ask, 'Why did this happen?' "

A quote from one of the pastor's at Steven Curtis Chapman's church in Nashville. My heart breaks for their family and especially for their teenage son.

A Prayer...

May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live from deep within your hearts.

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of God's creations
So that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.

May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger, and war,
So that you may reach out your hands to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with just enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done:
Cry the transforming Gospel of Jesus with your life to the ends of the earth.
Amen.

So about that last stanza...is it foolishness to believe that I, we, can make a difference in the world?

A BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night, May 6th, at 10:32 pm little Egan Ryan Koenig was born! I was able to see him at 12:45 am that next morning and I went back to hold him at 4pm! He is absolutely beautiful! Shannon and Josh make a good lookin' baby! I don't know why this is underlined, but it is.

I have learned that this experience of child birth is one of the most amazing things in the whole wide world! I think I have been praising God more in the past 2 days than I ever have before! I also think I have discovered the "mother" inside of me as I didn't want to put him down...I knew I had it in me!
